HTML Composer Frequently Asked Questions
Managing Permissions
Do all users have access to add HTML to content?
No. Outreach Admins must enable the feature for the applicable Profile. Outreach recommends enabling the HTML feature for users who will be responsible for using or adding previously created, HTML content to Outreach content.
Can we limit the use of templates/snippets that have HTML included?
Yes. Users can limit access to Outreach content containing HTML content by defining how the Outreach content is made available to the Org.
Example: To limit access to an HTML-enabled Template, the Template Owner must update the Visibility settings as applicable.
For more information regarding visibility, ownership, and sharing of Outreach content, refer to the applicable articles for managing the types of content needed.
Using HTML Composer
What Outreach content can HTML be added to?
Currently, Outreach provides the ability for users to add HTML to:
- Templates
- Snippets
- Bulk emails
- Signatures
- Editing Sequence Steps
Note: In all other cases, it is possible to add HTML by adding it to a Template, then applying that Template to the required content/item.
Can I use HTML in one-off emails?
No. Currently HTML can only be inserted into the Outreach content outlined above.
How do I add HTML to Outreach Content?
First, prepare and test the HTML you intend to use in a dedicated HTML editing tool to ensure it will appear as intended.
When ready, access the applicable content (e.g., Templates, Snippets, etc.), then click the HTML composer icon (</>) in the toolbar.
Tip: When testing your HTML before adding it to the composer, ensure it appears as desired in both desktop and mobile interfaces.
Does the HTML composer contain tools to edit and update the HTML?
While you can technically craft HTML from scratch in the HTML Composer, Outreach does not currently support testing or troubleshooting your HTML content. If you are creating HTML from scratch or need to adjust, you will be unable to test the output within the Outreach application itself.
We recommend using the HTML Composer only for adding in HTML content that has been produced and tested in a separate HTML editing tool (such as Notepad++).
Will adding HTML to Outreach emails cause any deliverability issues?
Emails with more complex HTML are more likely to be flagged as SPAM or sent to the promotions tab. Outreach recommends keeping the majority of your mailing as text and only using HTML to add value and elevate.
Will links in the embedded HTML content be sent with or without a branded URL? Will it work with click-tracking?
Yes. Links in HTML are substituted with tracking links as configured by the user.
Basic Troubleshooting
My HTML does not look like it should when I add it, what should I do?
If your HTML is not already saved in a separate HTML viewing and composition tool, copy it from the Outreach HTML Composer and paste it into the dedicated tool to review, make corrections, and test. Once confirmed that it renders as desired in all applicable formats (i.e., desktop and mobile), re-add it via the HTML Composer to the applicable Outreach content.
How do I fix issues where my styles are not being applied in the HTML content?
If your HTML contains style classes inside style tags, you should run your HTML through a tool that "inlines" the styles, such as the CSS InLiner Tool.
I added an HTML block at the top of my signature and am now unable to add text above it. How do I fix this?
The HTML content takes up the full line. Try removing it, then add the HTML content back in after the text.
