Objective
The purpose of this article is to guide Outreach Users and Admins on best practices to create test Prospect records to use for testing Outreach email features.
Applies To
- Prospect Creation
- Prospects
- Org-wide Email Settings
Procedure
When setting up Outreach, Orgs are advised to block their own domain in the Org info>General settings
This is considered a best practice to prevent creating Prospects out of your own internal email activity and to keep unrelated email activity out of Outreach and/or the CRM. However, this can make it impossible to use your work email on a test Prospect record when wanting to try out new Templates, Sequences or other settings in Outreach.
To resolve this, we recommend creating a brand new test email via Gmail (or any other free email platform) to use. That way, a User can send and receive the emails and monitor the results from both ends of the interaction. Some companies have multiple domains available to their end Users, and they will sometimes use these on test Prospects to get around this restriction. However, we still recommend using a newly generated test email to prevent syncing any unwanted activity into Outreach. We strongly advise against the creation of Prospects with users' own personal mailboxes, to avoid syncing in potential confidential communication between that mailbox and user's mailboxes. A dedicated dummy mailbox should be created specifically for testing purposes.
If you have issues with the email created, have your internal Outreach admin make sure that the domain of the email provider (ex: Gmail or Yahoo) is not blocked in your Outreach settings.
