Objective
Learn how to enable and disable email unsubscribe links in your Outreach sequences and one-off emails.
While not a general requirement by default, a growing number of major email providers are requiring bulk email senders in particular to feature unsubscribe links in their emails in order to avoid protective restrictions impacting sends from those domains. For this reason, Outreach strongly recommends enabling these options.
Unsubscribe links are also incredibly useful as a feedback loop from Prospects as to communication preference and overall interest, and are much more helpful than alternative actions like delete/archive or mark as spam.
Applies To
- Outreach Users
- Outreach Admins
Notes
- While all users can toggle unsubscribe links within sequence email rulesets, only admins can manage the unsubscribe options for non-sequence "one-off" emails.
- Once enabled by admins, users may optionally customize the appearance of the unsubscribe link in their own emails.
- Test emails will not include the unsubscribe link.

- In the secondary left nav, click Organization > Org info.
- Click to open the Email tab.
- Scroll down to the Unsubscribe section and configure the available settings.
A description of the features are available below:
Setting Use case Enable list-unsubscribe in email header This allows for easy unsubscribe directly from the email header without the need for a recipient to find the unsubscribe link in the email body.
Note:
These do not always immediately show up. There is an algorithm for this on Google's side (same with Outlook and other mail clients) that controls whether this displays or not on their end. There must have been enough unsubscribe link clicks before Google will approve and validate it.
You can also test your email delivery here (https://aboutmy.email/). Once you send your test email, check the 'Unsubscription' section, and you'll see the confirmation that we are indeed injecting the list-unsubscribe.
Add unsubscribe link to one-off emails sent with Outreach through Gmail/Outlook Include the unsubscribe link in your emails sent with your email client when using the Outreach extensions (Outreach Everywhere for Gmail and Outlook Add-in).
How will the new setting impact Gmail?
When Outreach will detect that an email is sent to a prospect, the unsubscribe link will be added below the email signature. The user can delete the link if they choose to do so.
When replying to an email the link will not be added; the link is included only for new emails.
How will the new setting impact Outlook?
In Outlook the email processing happens at the time the user clicks on send. The unsubscribe link will be added to the email as part of the send process.
As with Gmail, the link will not be added to email replies.
Add unsubscribe link to one-off emails sent with Outreach through Outreach web Your unsubscribe link will be included in one off emails sent through Outreach Web. Add unsubscribe link to bulk emails Your unsubscribe link will be included in bulk emails sent through Outreach Web. - While not required, we strongly recommend that admins take the following actions:
- Create and configure a domain-specific Post-unsubscribe URL. (By default, Outreach's unsubscribe link lands on a generic page that simply has the prospect confirm they'd like to opt out and provides confirmation when the action is complete.)
- Check the boxes for all 4 unsubscribe options to ensure compliance with the strictest email provider rules applied to bulk email senders and more effectively avoid spam designation.
- Click Save.
