Answer

Tags like [EXT] and [MARKETING] in the subject line are typically added automatically by your organization's email system or security tools. Here's what they usually mean:

1- [EXT]

  • [EXT] stands for External. It indicates that the email was sent from outside your organization.
  • This is a security feature to help users identify potentially risky emails and avoid phishing or spoofing attempts.

2- [MARKETING]

  • This tag is often added by email filtering or classification systems.
  • It suggests the email has been categorized as marketing-related—possibly promotional content, newsletters, or advertisements.
  • It helps users prioritize or filter emails more effectively.

These tags are not part of the original subject line written by the sender—they're added by your organization's email gatewaysecurity software, or Microsoft Defender for Office 365, depending on your setup.

If you don't want to see them, please loop in your IT team to adjust the settings for you, as this is outside the Outreach platform.
