Texting error- 'You don't have a phone capable of texting. Please add a phone from your settings first

Symptom

When trying to send a text message, the user sometimes might experience this error
"You don't have a phone capable of texting. Please add a phone from your settings first"

Applies To

  • All users
  • Texting

Resolution

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Personal Settings.
  2. Select Phone Numbers.
  3. Choose the option to Purchase a New Phone Number. (You will keep your original phone number.)
  4. Purchase any phone number you like.
  5. Assign this new number the "Texting" option and save the changes.
  6. Once done, switch back to your old number.

 

(Note: You can delete the new phone number you purchased after completing these steps.)
