How to fix the failed sequence error: "Malformed href - sender.custom1"

Created by Joey Walvatne, Modified on Mon, 9 Feb at 11:02 PM by Alsabana Sahubarali

Symptom

A prospect fails in sequence due to error message: "Malformed href - sender.custom1", where sender.custom1 refers to the failed variable in the template. Note that sender.custom1 could be other variables that do not have a value.

Applies To

  • Outreach Sequences

  • Associated Outreach Templates

Resolution

  1. Locate the step # where the prospect failed
  2. Navigate to the Sequence overview page - locate the referenced sequence step and select the template(s) used for this step to view the content of the template.
  3. Look for any URL links within the template step. Left-click on each of the links to find a problem link where the URL directs to "sender.custom1" (or other variable listed in the error).
  4. Fix the template link by removing the redirect URL. Input the applicable link URL and save your changes.
  5. On the failed prospects - follow the steps in this article: Move to step - making sure to move the prospect(s) to this same step where the prospect initially failed.

Cause

This is caused by a variable being used in a link that has been added to a template, but the link references a variable that has no value. In this example, {{sender.custom1}}.
